Piecing Things Together: Thoughts on Finds and Spreadsheets

Okay, so I was scrolling through my phone the other day, waiting for my coffee to brew – you know how that machine takes forever – and I stumbled upon this photo from last summer. Me, looking like I just rolled out of bed, but weirdly, the outfit actually worked. It got me thinking about how I’ve been piecing things together lately. It’s less about big, flashy purchases and more about… well, finding little gems that just click.

Take last Thursday. I was supposed to meet Alex for lunch, but of course, I was running late (story of my life). I threw on this oversized corduroy jacket I’d almost forgotten about, paired with some basic jeans and these beat-up sneakers. When I finally showed up, Alex just nodded and said, “You look like you actually tried today.” High praise, honestly. The thing is, that jacket was something I tracked down months ago after seeing it in some random street style shot. I remembered saving the link in my Basetao spreadsheet, which is basically my digital closet of “maybe” items. It’s not a shopping list, more like a mood board that occasionally turns into real clothes.

I’ve been using that spreadsheet for a while now. It started as a joke – a way to organize all those tabs I had open at 2 a.m. – but it’s turned into this weirdly helpful tool. I’ll be watching a movie or something, spot a cool pair of pants on a character, and instead of immediately buying them (which, let’s be real, I’ve done too many times), I’ll just drop a link into the sheet. It’s like a wishlist, but less pressure. Sometimes I go back weeks later and realize I don’t even want the thing anymore. Other times, it’s like, “Oh yeah, that shirt would be perfect right now.”

The other day, I was cleaning out my closet – a rare burst of productivity – and found this striped sweater buried in the back. I’d completely forgotten buying it, but when I put it on, it felt like new. It made me realize how much I rely on that Basetao template to keep track of stuff I’m eyeing. It’s not about having a perfect wardrobe; it’s about remembering those little finds that slip your mind. Like, I’ll see someone wearing awesome sunglasses, add them to the sheet, and then months later, when mine break, I actually remember to check it. Small victories, you know?

Anyway, back to the coffee. It finally finished brewing, and I took a sip while scrolling through my phone again. I noticed I’d added a link to some vintage-looking boots to my spreadsheet last week. No idea if I’ll ever get them, but it’s nice to have them there, waiting. It’s kind of like how I keep recipes saved – half of them I never make, but just knowing they’re there feels good. Maybe that’s the whole point: it’s less about the stuff and more about the possibility. The jacket from last Thursday, the forgotten sweater – they all started as links in that sheet, little ideas that eventually became part of my day-to-day.

So yeah, that’s what’s been on my mind lately. Just piecing things together slowly, without overthinking it. I’m sitting here now, still in that corduroy jacket because it’s cozy, and my coffee’s gone cold. I should probably reheat it, but I’m too lazy to get up. Maybe I’ll just scroll through my Basetao spreadsheet again, see if anything catches my eye. Or maybe not. For now, I’m just happy with how this jacket turned out.
